Hip-Hop
Hip Hop has dancers exploring various hip hop grooves, steps, and combinations as well as learning how to properly execute tricks that are common in hip hop dance. Acro and Hip Hop or Jazz experience required. Ages 12-18.
Tap
Tap class explores dance through the use of rhythm and sound. Dancers will begin with strengthening exercises and fundamental tap techniques that will allow them to move from basic to complex rhythms and steps. Students will explore different styles of tap from Braodway to Jazz to Hip-hop.
Contemporary
Contemporary class combines modern and ballet techniques with acrobatic movements to explore a wide range of choreography. Dancers will work on the floor, at the barre, in center, and on the mats to develop the skills necessary to perform contemporary choreography.
Ballet
Ballet provides a base technique for all other styles of dance. Ballet develops strength, flexibility, coordination, and overall body control needed for all dancers. This class consists of barre exercises, center work, and combinations that move us across the room. Students will learn ballet technique and vocabulary, as well as practice ballet combinations and learn dances for performance.
Jazz
Jazz is a fun class that allows students to work on combinations of jazz movements including kicks, turns, leaps, jumps, isolations, and various combinations of movements. Dancers are exposed to various styles of jazz such as broadway, pop, hip-hop and modern/lyrical jazz to help develop a well- rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations.
Creative Movement (at Zion ECC)
Creative Movement is a 45 minute class that exposes 3 and 4 year old children to basic steps from various styles of dance while working on movements that develop a child's coordination/motor skills, strength, balance, and overall body control.
Broadway Dance
Broadway Dance is a fun class that allows the dancers' personalities to shine! Broadway Dance allows dancers to develop their theatrical side as they work on choreography using songs from Broadway musicals. Dancers should have some dance experience for this class.
Pre-Ballet
Pre-Ballet introduces the littles to the world of ballet in a combination of traditional and fun methods to develop balance, control, strength, and flexibility as well as basic ballet dance movements.
Lyrical
Lyrical dance is an expressive form of dance that allows dancers to really portray the emotions of the song lyrics. Ballet is used as a base technique with focus on turn combinations, extensions, a variety of leaps, jumps, and floorwork, as well as transitiional movements and some acro as we work through combinations each week.
Class Descriptions
